A Note From Nancy:
I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2006. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I was accepted into a clinical trial at Johns Hopkins University where I received a vaccine in hopes of staying in remission. I was disease-free until January 2011 when I found out that the cancer had spread to my liver. I am currently on chemotherapy to combat this disease once again.
Since my diagnosis, I have been surrounded by an incredible assortment of family and friends. I have never walked one step of this journey alone. I am blessed to have such a wonderful support system, and keenly aware that each day I have with those I love is truly a gift.
Looking for a way to acknowledge the hearts and hands that have touched my life, I was reminded of the simple, sweet gesture of a rum cake. Many years ago, my husband Chris had begun making rum cakes for his business associates and charitable donors. It became his signature way to say thank you.
Now is the time for me to say thanks to everyone who cared for me. It’s time for me to give back to those who have given me hope. I want to see a cure for this devastating disease. That’s why half of the profits from NancyCakes sales are donated to pancreatic cancer research at Johns Hopkins.
When you give one of our rum cakes, you’re showing your appreciation for those who have touched your life. You’re also helping to give people like me something else to be thankful for—more hope in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
My deepest thanks,
Nancy
